World Obesity Day: Springs and metal components to combat this epidemic

At RPK Group, we offer engineering, design, and industrialization of key components for autoinjectors

Today is the 4th of March, World Obesity Day, a day to take action against the obesity epidemic worldwide. Obesity is a major risk factor for a range of diseases, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and various types of cancer, causing millions of deaths every year, which makes it one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

Exercise and nutrition are essential for weight loss, but medications can also increase its effectiveness. According to market projections, the global anti-obesity drugs market is expected to witness substantial growth, increasing from $4.51 billion in 2023 to $22.85 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26.1% during the forecast period.

Currently, there are two medications approved for rare obesity syndromes, Metreleptin and Setmelanotide, and five other medications (orlistat, phentermine/topiramate, naltrexone/bupropion, liraglutide, semaglutide) approved for non-syndromic obesity. Other drugs are being investigated and in clinical trials for the same purposes, such as reducing appetite increasing satiety, and slowing gastric emptying.

How can the RPK Group assist you with the design and manufacturing of autoinjectors?

Most of these medications are delivered via disposable spring-loaded autoinjectors as trending products such as Wegovy and Ozempic by Novo Nordisk or Eli Lilly´s Mounjaro. RPK Group can be your key partner in your supply chain for springs, stamping & bending parts, and assemblies.

Our teams of engineers will work with you to create advanced technical solutions that enhance people´s lives. From the design to the industrialization of springs, complex assemblies, and power packs to ensure maximum precision and comfort when injecting the medicine. We manufacture precision components for 2 or 3-step autoinjectors that provide clear, audible, visual, and tactile feedback. The needle retracts after injection with the help of a spring, and the metal parts of the device are designed to cater to high- and low-viscosity drug delivery.
