Torsion Spring
For the toughest requirements
Customers from medical and industrial sectors can count on RPK Group as a leading supplier of torsion springs
The helical springs used to apply a torque are commonly called torsion spring. This types are stressed by bending so our engineers must calculate them using different formulae than those used for compression or tension springs (stressed in torsion). We use the Finite Element Simulation to determine the optimum spring shape. The only limit to the complexity of a torsion spring’s shape is the customer’s needs. We produce single and double-bodied torsion springs in carbon steel, stainless steel, and special alloys for automotive, power tool, and industrial applications, under IATF 16949 with 100% control and fatigue validation. Our engineers’ expertise and skills and the use of state-of-the-art production technology enable us to meet these unique requirements. The sky is the limit.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a torsion spring, and what applications does it serve?
A torsion spring stores energy by twisting along its axis and releases it as a rotational force (torque). It is used to return a rotating component to a neutral position or to maintain angular pressure in an assembly. Common examples include clothespin mechanisms, door hinges, garage door counterbalance systems, and automotive throttle-body actuators.
What automotive systems use torsion springs?
Torsion springs serve throttle bodies, door hinges, seat recline mechanisms, rearview mirror adjustment systems, wiper arm return systems, and sunroof panel mechanisms. They are also used in safety-critical systems such as seatbelt retractors.
Can torsion springs be used in power tools?
Yes. Torsion springs return saw guards, switch levers, and blade covers to their default positions. They are also used in drill chuck mechanisms and in battery pack latch assemblies for cordless tools.
What parameters define a torsion spring?
Key parameters include body diameter, wire diameter, number of active coils, leg length, leg angle, torque at a specified angle, spring rate (torque per degree of rotation), and direction of wind (right-hand or left-hand). Providing these parameters enables RPK Group's engineering team to produce a compliant spring for your application.
Do you manufacture torsion springs for medical devices?
Yes. Torsion springs are used in autoinjector mechanisms, lancing devices, and surgical stapler actuation systems. RPK Group manufactures these from stainless steel and other biocompatible alloys, with 100% inspection and clean room handling where required.
